And We Danced DJ Entertainment had the pleasure of entertaining the Latino Club and Global Ambassadors Program of the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) Harrisburg with Latin music as they celebrated Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead.  The Day of the Dead is a time of remembrance and celebration of loved ones who have passed away.  The event took place at the Penn State Harrisburg Capital Union Building (CUB) and featured music, dancing, a mariachi band, the history of Dia de los Muertos, ethnic food, and most of all fun.

Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead originated in Mexico.  Today, it is celebrated all over Latin America.  For the Mexican holiday, families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives with offerings of food, drink, and celebration.  While it is sad that loved ones have passed away, the holiday is filled with happiness and love as families come together and honor the dead with stories, music, and dancing.

The Day of the Dead is a two-day holiday in which families create offerings to honor their departed family members that have passed.  Offerings are placed on an altar that is decorated with bright yellow marigold flowers, photos of the deceased, candles, papel picado or cut tissue-paper designs, food, and beverages honoring the departed.  The marigolds on the altar are to attract the souls of the dead to the offerings.  Skulls or calaveras are commonly seen as decorations and represent death and rebirth.  Small sugar skulls are made as treats and decorations during the Dia de los Muertos celebration.

And We Danced DJ Entertainment had the crowd singing and dancing to their favorite Latin music.  Dance floor lighting created a wonderful club atmosphere and highlighted the Latin dance moves.  Young and old took to the floor to enjoy the Dias de los Muertos celebration.

Thank you, Penn State Harrisburg’s Latin Club and Global Ambassadors for inviting And We Danced DJ Entertainment to be a part of your exciting Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos celebration!
